MADISON, Wis. – Despite taking one game and almost forcing a decisive fifth set, the Edgewood College Eagles dropped its 11th straight match to conference favorite Lakeland College inside the Edgedome Tuesday night.

Lakeland, led by Heidi Kramer's 15 kills and .444 hitting percentage took the first two games with ease and was able to hang on in the fourth set to give the Eagles its first loss of the season at home 25-14, 25-16, 17-25, and 25-19.

The Eagles scrapped their way back into the first set to make the score 15-12, but subsequently lost 10 of the next 12 points which included four errors to drop the set. The second set saw much of the same as the Eagles had trouble getting into a rhythm. They committed eight errors and tallied just six kills in route to a negative hitting percentage to trail two sets to none.

Edgewood College's third set was their best as they were able to get to nearly every ball. Seven Eagles scored at least one kill on their way to the eight point victory and collectively added 15 kills with a hitting percentage of .250.

Edgewood College started the fourth set blazing to a 3-0 lead and then forced Lakeland to take a timeout at 8-5. It proved effective and the Muskies battled back to take a 13-11 lead and forced the Eagles to take a timeout. Out of the break, Lakeland was able to add two more points and Edgewood College couldn't seem to get close enough to put the pressure back on the reigning champs after that.

The Eagles' Aryn Wellnitz had a breakout game with season-high 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .296. It was the most kills for Wellnitz since the first match of the year against Maryville when she accounted for 10. Hannah Williams and Abbi Schultz split the majority of assists with 18 and 12, respectively. Schultz also added four kills and seven digs.

Edgewood College will look to put an end to their losing streak when they travel to Watertown, Wis. to take on Maranatha Baptist Bible College on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
