STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team hoped to prove they could compete with one of the region's top teams in UW-Stevens Point. They may still prove they belong, but the proof will have to wait for another day, as the Pointers ran over the Eagles 7-0 at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.
The day started badly and the Eagles never got their high-powered offense in gear. The Eagles tallied on own goal in the second minute of play to give the 23rd-ranked Pointers a 1-0 lead. The Pointers (4-1) added two more goals in the next 11 minutes to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. Following the break, UW-Stevens Point's Kaylee Weise tallied three goals in a span of eight minutes to put the game out of reach.
Edgewood College (3-1) managed six shots on goal including four by freshman Elaine Gerry. Eagle goalkeeper Ilana Bar-av turned away 11 shots.
Edgewood College will return to action on Saturday for their season opener against Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill.
