Box Score
MADISON, Wis. – The Eagles' offense was just as hot as the temperature outside as they scorched Maryville University (Mo.), 5-1, en route to their second win of the season on Sunday at Breese Stevens Field.
Erika Thompson got it started early in the first half after using a nice pass from Angela Colletti to put one by the Saints' keeper in the 16th minute. Just minutes later, Edgewood College (2-0) was called for a foul in their own box giving a penalty kick opportunity to Maryville (0-1-1). Jackie Haas converted to make it 1-1, but that was as close as the score would be the rest of the day.
In the 30th minute, Elaine Gerry was able to bounce on a deflected shot to put one by the left hand of Saints' keeper, Julie McChesney, to give the Eagles the lead once again. They would add one more from Jessi Ditzler and take a 3-1 lead into the second half.
In the second half, Tammi Hagensick and Janna Yost each scored unassisted goals to push the lead out of reach and sent Maryville back to St. Louis empty handed.
With temperatures pushing into the low 90's, the Eagles offense turned up the heat as well. Edgewood College scored the final four goals unanswered in the blowout win. Three of the five goals came in the first half and from non-starters throughout the contest. The Eagles outshot the Saints by an overwhelming margin of 33-6 and held the corner kick advantage 12-1. Eagles keeper, Ilana Bar-Av needed to make just three saves for her second win of the season.
Edgewood College will be back in action September 5, when they host Ripon College at 4 p.m. at Breese Stevens Field.
