LISLE, Ill. (May 3, 2008) – After losing their opening round game on Thursday the Eagles rebounded with a win over Lakeland 13-1 in five innings before getting eliminated 9-5 by Benedictine. After playing the opening round on Thursday in Aurora the tournament was moved to Lisle, Ill. home of Benedictine University due to Aurora's field being unplayable.
The Eagles opened up the afternoon with a 13-1 shellacking of Lakeland in a game called after five innings due to the eight run rule. Edgewood College pounded out 17 hits in the game with Kristen Salvatore leading the Eagles going four-for-four at the plate with four RBIs. The game was scoreless after two innings before the Eagles scored five runs in the third, four in the fourth and four in the fifth inning to take a commanding lead. Jamie Kurt and Colleen Joyce each collected three hits in the game while Jenna Ryan (14-8) picked up her 14th win of the season, pitching four innings and allowing one earned run. The Muskies Sara Roberts (14-12) took the loss, pitching three innings and allowing four earned runs. The loss eliminated the number five seed Muskies who fall to 17-20 overall.
After surviving one elimination game the Eagles were back on the diamond, this time facing second seed Benedictine. Benedictine took a 5-0 lead after two innings to take the 9-5 win and bounce the Eagles from the tournament. The Eagles scored two runs in the third and another two in the fourth inning but they could not overcome the early hole they dug themselves in. Jenna Ryan (14-9) took the loss, pitching all seven innings and allowing eight earned runs while Benedictine's Brittany Carnell (15-7) picked up the win pitching 3.2 innings and allowing four earned runs. Jennifer Stephens led the Eagles offensively, going four-for-five at the plate. The Eagles conclude the 2008 season with a 21-16 record, going 1-2 at the NAC tournament.
