LISLE, Ill. (April 5, 2008) – Benedictine showed why they are the top hitting team in the league, pounding 22 hits against Edgewood College, winning game one 4-3 and pulling out the 10-2 victory in game two to earn the series sweep. Senior Jennifer Stephens extended her hitting streak to 10-games, going three-for-seven over the course of the series.

In game one of the doubleheader, Aimee Mahoney hit an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to propel Benedictine to the 4-3 win. Benedictine jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after two innings. The Eagles scored twice in the fourth inning and tied the score at three apiece in the top of the sixth, thanks to a Jennifer Stephens RBI double, driving in Jenna Ryan. Benedictine would respond the bottom of the sixth with Mahoney's RBI double to take the lead indefinitely. Just one day after pitching a no-hitter against Maranatha Baptist, Benedictine's Brittney Carnell (8-2) picked up the win pitching a complete game and striking out six. Eagles Jenna Ryan (5-5) was saddled with the loss, pitching six innings and allowing three earned runs. Offensively Ryan was two-for-three at the plate with an RBI while Jamie Kurt returned to the line-up for the Eagles after missing two games with an injury, going two-for-four at the plate. Benedictine's Aimee Mahoney was three-for-four with 2 RBIs. Mahoney was a home run shy of hitting the cycle, picking up a single, double and triple in the game.

Benedictine used a four-run fourth inning and a four-run sixth to roll to the 10-2 victory to sweep the series. Benedictine never trailed in the game, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Holding a slim 2-1 lead, Benedictine used a 2 RBI triple by Jill Kaskavage to break open the game and take a 6-1 lead. A Leslie Bell RBI in the fifth brought the score to 6-2 before Benedictine would pile on four runs in the sixth, three of which coming off a Cassie Cappetto home run. The game was ended after the sixth inning due to the eight-run rule. Sam Corban (4-2) pitched a complete game for Benedictine, picking up the win while Jennifer Stephens (2-1) absorbed her first loss of the season, striking out four in five and two-thirds innings. Stephens and teammate Leslie Bell were the only Eagles with multiple hits, both going two-for-three at the plate with Bell driving in a run. Cassie Cappetto was three-for-four for Benedictine, hitting two singles and a home run.

The pair of losses drops Edgewood College back to .500 at 7-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Benedictine remains unbeaten in conference play, improving to 15-5 overall and 10-0 in conference. The Eagles return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader against preseason conference favorite Aurora.
