Eagles fall at Spartans

MONTGOMERY, Ill. – The Edgewood University softball team faced Aurora University in a conference doubleheader on Saturday. The Eagles claimed a pair of wins over the Eagles, taking game one 2-1, and following that up with a 4-2 win in the nightcap.

AURORA UNIVERSITY 2, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 1
- Edgewood University (12-9, 5-11 NACC) scored first in game one on Saturday. Svannah Radtke plated Olivia Chichenoff with an RBI double to right center field in the third inning.

- The Eagles took care of business on defense through the sixth inning. Aurora University (21-11, 13-5 NACC) had a pair of runners on the corners with two outs in the sixth frame and took advantage of an Eagle mistake to tie the game a one run apiece.

- Edgewood University left a runner in scoring position in top of the seventh inning, leaving the door open for the Spartans to claim the victory.

- Aurora did just that, claiming the walk-off win with a single to right field.

- Lauren Prigge went the distance in the circle for the Eagles, striking out a batter and scattering eight hits.

- Emma Way recorded the complete game victory for the Spartans, striking out two batters.

- Abilina Dubree went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Eagles. Olivia Chichenoff went 1-for-2 and scored a run.

AURORA UNIVERSITY 4, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 2
- Aurora University got on the bats early in game two, scoring a single run in the first frame via an RBI single. Edgewood University responded, tying the game a one run apiece with an RBI single off the bat of Allie Draper.

- The Spartans took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning via an RBI bunt. A triple off the bat of Lily Komperda plated the Spartans third run. Komperda came across to score run number four for Aurora.

- Edgewood University scored their second and the final run of the game in the fourth inning via an RBI single from Radtke. The Eagles struggled to score through the final innings. In all, the Eagles stranded 12 runners on base in the nightcap.

- Lily Mabs went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored a run for the Eagles in the nightcap. The Eagles totaled 10 hits in game two, with seven different batters recording one hit.

- Ariana Macias claimed the loss, pitching three innings and scattering seven hits. Hailie Boardman pitched in relief, allowing no runs.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood University will host Lakeland University on Sunday, April 26 for Senior Day. Doubleheader action is set for 12:00 p.m. from Ceniti Park in Verona, Wisconsin.
