VERONA, Wis. (Apr. 21, 2008) – Edgewood College scored 15 runs off 16 hits in the first two innings of game one to set the tone for the series, earning a two-game sweep against Northern Athletics Conference rival Dominican. The Eagles cruised to a game one win 16-2 in five innings while needing a late charge to take game two 10-4. The Eagles amassed 30 hits over the two-game series with Colleen Joyce leading the team with five hits.

The Eagles came out swinging in game one, scoring six runs in the first inning and nine runs in the second, collecting 16 hits in the process to take game one 16-2. The Stars actually managed to outscore the Eagles 2-1 after the second inning, however the damage had already been done. Seven Eagles collected multiple hits in the game with Colleen Joyce, Kristen Salvatore and Brittany Rynes each getting three hits apiece. Freshman Brittany Rynes (1-0) made her first appearance in the circle, pitching three innings and collecting her first career win. Susanna Gonzalez (6-17) absorbed the loss, yielding 11 earned runs.

Dominican jumped to the early 1-0 lead in game two and held the lead until the fourth inning when the Eagles scored four to take the lead. After a slow start Edgewood College racked up nine runs in three innings thanks to two separate base clearing doubles. With the score tied 1-1 in the fourth inning, Leslie Bell pinch-hit for Danielle Acker with the bases juiced and two outs. Bell doubled down the left field line, clearing the bases in the process to give the Eagles a three run cushion. In the sixth inning with the bases loaded, Colleen Joyce in a similar situation, doubled down the left field line to clear the bases and increase the Eagle lead to 9-3. Both teams would trade a pair of runs in the seventh inning to bring the final score to 10-4. Jenna Ryan (12-6) pitched a complete game for Edgewood College, striking out six, allowing just two earned runs while Dominican's Kelsy Holloway (1-3) took the loss, pitching all seven innings and allowing 10 earned runs off of 11 hits. Jennifer Stephens led the Eagles offensively with three hits in five at-bats while Joyce, Bell and Brittany Rynes each had three RBIs.

With the wins Edgewood College improves to 17-11 overall and 12-6 in the conference while the Stars fall to 9-20 overall and 5-13 in the NAC. The Eagles return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader versus Maranatha Baptist at Ceniti Park in Verona. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
