ROCKFORD, Ill. – The onslaught continues for opposing teams that come face-to-face with Elaine Gerry and the Edgewood College women's soccer team. Rockford College was living proof of that Saturday afternoon as they witnessed five more goals from the Eagle freshman in a 9-0 decision at Sam Greeley Field.
Edgewood College (9-2, 5-1 NAC) outshot, outplayed and outscored the Regents (1-9, 0-7 NAC) in dominating fashion. It has been a recurring theme for the Eagles against the majority of its opponents so far this season.
Angela Colletti got the scoring barrage started early with a goal in the 5th minute thanks to a nice feed from Elaine Gerry for the assist. Gerry then got into the action herself. She scored the next three goals in a span of less than seven minutes midway through the first half. The five goals by Gerry gave her 28 on the season and vaulted her into the outright lead for “Nation's leading scorer.”
Just before halftime, Tami Oilschlager got into the act for her first goal of the season with an assist from Megan Gaber. Kelsey Beck added her fourth goal of the season just before halftime.
Less than one minute into the second half, Emily Daniels mounted her second goal of the season. The Eagles would tack on two more goals from Gerry, one of which was assisted by Caitlin Moore, her fifth assist of the season. Laura Marx also added an assist in the game giving her eight which is second on the team behind Elyse Clouthier's team-high 11.
The Eagles had won four straight against Rockford entering the game, while outscoring the Regents 46-4 in those contests including a 15-0 win last year. On Saturday, the trend continued and Ilana Bar-av added her fourth shutout of the season.
Edgewood College will gear up for a non-conference battle with Lawrence University of the Midwest Conference on Monday. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m. in Appleton, Wis.
