MADISON, Wis. – The Eagles earned a rare win over a non conference opponent in UW-Whitewater and remained undefeated at home in the process after a 1-0 thriller at Breese Stevens Field Friday night.

Edgewood College (12-3) received the decisive goal from Elaine Gerry thanks to a nice pass headed up by Angela Colletti. Gerry needed just one touch to blast the brilliantly-placed shot over the outstretched hands of the Warhawk net-minder and underneath the cross bar for her 31st goal of the season.

The Eagle defense, specifically Ilana Bar-av, then did its part to preserve the shutout and earn the first-ever win in six games against UW-Whitewater (7-7) in the team's history. Bar-av matched her season-high performance from Wednesday against MSOE when she recorded eight more saves in the win over UW-Whitewater. The junior keeper staved off several late attacks by the Warhawks, who outshot the Eagles 13-8, to earn her third straight shutout and seventh of the season.

Friday night's win over the Warhawks marked the third time in four meetings against UW-Whitewater at Breese Stevens Field that a game has been decided by a single goal. Finally, the Eagles can say they came out on top.

Edgewood College remains unbeaten at home (8-0) and will go for win No. 9 tomorrow morning against Alverno College. Expect a high-scoring affair as the Inferno have allowed more than six goals (6.09) per contest in 2008.

Gerry is just three goals shy of tying the all-time single season goals scored record at Edgewood College and continues to lead the nation in goals and points for NCAA Division III. Saturday's game against Alverno is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. at Breese Stevens Field.
