MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Eagle women's soccer team clung on to an early first half goal before turning up the heat late in the second half and pulling away to a 4-0 road win over Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday afternoon.
Elaine Gerry got Edgewood College (10-3, 6-1 NAC) on the board early with a goal in the 18th minute of the game. That goal held remarkably long considering the Eagles outshot Wisconsin Lutheran (3-12, 3-6 NAC) 33-2 in the match and held the corner kick discrepancy by a 9-1 margin.
It was a one-goal game until the 72nd minute when Jessi Ditzler finally provided a little breathing room with her sixth goal of the season. In less than seven minutes after Ditzler's first goal of the game, she and Gerry added another to turn what seemed to be a close match on the scoreboard into a blowout.
Caitlin Moore assisted on the final two goals of the match including Gerry's 30th goal of the season. Emily Daniels and Kelsey Beck chipped in with assists in the first and second half, respectively.
Edgewood College extended its winning streak to seven games over the Warriors and has outscored them 20-1 during the streak. The last goal for Wisconsin Lutheran against the Eagles was in a loss back in 2003.
Edgewood College will face MSOE on Wednesday to begin its six-game home stand to conclude the regular season. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
