MADISON, Wis. - When the Edgewood College women's soccer team needed to shake off a tough loss on Wednesday night, they turned to the nation's leading scorer to get them back on the winning track. Freshman Elaine Gerry scored three goals and assisted on a fourth as the Eagles recorded a 4-1 victory over Lakeland College.

Edgewood College (8-2, 4-1 NAC) struck first in the ninth minute after Elyse Clouthier took a pass from Angela Colletti and found Gerry, who leads the nation in goals and points, alone in front of the keeper. For Clouthier, it was her 11th assists of the season, which leads the nation in that category.

Lakeland College (5-5, 2-2 NAC) would respond 10 minutes later when Brittney Smit beat an Eagle defender and pushed a shot past goalkeeper Ilana Bar-av for her second goal of the season.

Gerry would find the range again 10 minutes before halftime, launching right-footed rocket from 25 yards out, over the head of Muskie goalkeeper Leslie Oskey.

In the second half, it was Gerry again who worked the ball up the right side and fired a shot from 12-yards. Oskey stopped the shot, but carom ended up on the foot of Caitlin Moore who scored her fourth goal of the season and gave the Eagles a 3-1 lead. Fittingly, Gerry capped the night with her 23rd goal of the season, picking the ball out of a scramble in front of the Muskie net and pushing it into the lower left corner.

The Eagles controlled most of the match outshooting the Muskies 26-7. Oskey made 10 saves for Lakeland College compared to just two for Bar-av.

Edgewood College will be on the road for their next three matches, beginning with Rockford College on Saturday. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
