MADISON, Wis. (Nov. 1, 2007) – #3 seeded Dominican University defeated #2 seeded Edgewood College 2-1, Thursday night in a Northern Athletics Conference women's soccer tournament semi-final game played at Warner Park.
Dominican scored the game's first goal late in the first half as Mary Hoemeyer headed in a pass from teammate Mayra Camacho in the 43rd minute. The goal gave the Stars a 1-0 advantage going into the break. Dominican would strike again in the 74th minute as Kelsey Holloway scored an unassisted goal to give the Stars a comfortable 2-0 lead late in the second half. The Eagles would not go down without a fight as #Elyse Clouthier# (Oconomowoc, Wis.), scored in the 84th minute off of an #Erika Thompson# (Waukesha, Wis.) pass to close the gap to one goal. Stars goalkeeper Jacqui Lani had five saves on the night in her winning effort. The Eagles outshot the Stars 10-6 on the night in the losing effort.
The loss drops Edgewood College's record to 15-4 on the year, while Dominican improves to 13-7. The Stars advance to the NAC Championship game where they will take on the #1 seeded Aurora University in Aurora, Ill on Saturday, November 3. Aurora had defeated Concordia (Wisconsin) 2-1 earlier in the day. The loss puts Edgewood College and their NCAA tournament hopes in serious jeopardy. The tournament field will be announced by the NCAA on Sunday November 4.
