WAVERLY, Iowa – The Edgewood College women's golf team made a major improvements from last week's season opening tournament, to this week's Wartburg College Fall Invitational. The Eagles improved by 87 strokes over 36 holes, in finishing 19th at the Prairie Links G.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College was remarkably consistent, shooting 385 on the first day and 386 on the second day. The Eagles led both Buena Vista University and Coe College after Saturday's round, but the Beavers nipped the Eagles by one stroke for 18th place.
- Sarah Pophal continued to impress in her freshman campaign for the Eagles. Pophal shot 87 on Saturday and followed with a season-low 85 on Sunday. She finished in 71st place with a score of 172.
- Molly DuCharme broke 100 in both rounds on the weekend. She shot 99 on Saturday for her first career round under 100, and then her 94 on Sunday marked a new career-low score. She finished with 193. Senior Taylor Maier also posted her first sub-100 round with a 99 on Sunday, on her way to a total of 201.
- Kelsey Blankenheim fired a 97 on Saturday for her own season-low, and finished the 36-holes with a score of 205. Freshman Laura Boudreau made her collegiate debut, shooting 259.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Pophal's round of 85 was the lowest score by an Eagle golfer since Emilee Guderyon shot an 84 on September 16, 2012 at the Benedictine Fall Invitational. Her 36-hole total of 172 (+28) tied for the fifth best 36-hole score in program history.
- Edgewood College's team scored of 771 (+195) was the 11th best 36-hole tournament score in school history.
UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will have a much shorter trip in store next weekend. The Eagles will travel to Fond du Lac on Saturday and Sunday to participate in the Marian University Invitational.
