Box Score 2 ROCKFORD, Ill. – With a late lead in both games today, the Edgewood College softball team was looking for a pair of wins but dropped both contests to Rockford University. The Eagles fell 6-5 in game one after Rockford University scored six in the seventh and 5-4 in game two after holding a lead in the sixth.
The Eagles took three innings to warm up in game one, but tallied four runs on three hits in the fourth. Taylor McLean brought in the first run and after Tiffani Pierce walked to load the bases, Kylie Clark ripped a triple to the left center wall which emptied the bags and put Edgewood College up 4-0. The Eagles notched one more in the sixth as Pierce singled in Katie Landon who led off with a double.
With a 5-0 lead and Rachel DeJongh in the circle, it looked as if the Eagles would take the opener, but Rockford would not back down. The Regents rallied back behind some persistent hitting and sloppy defensive play by the Eagles to tie the game at 5-5. With the bases loaded and just one out, Rockford's Lynn Snyder-Blakeley then drew a walk to plate the winning run.
In game two, the teams continued to trade punches back-and-forth. The Eagles reached the board first as Alyssa Schulting sliced a two-out single up the middle to plate Jackie Diesch. Rockford then scored a run in both the second and the third but Edgewood College answered. Alexis Unser put a 1-1 pitch into center which plated Landon who doubled to lead off. Rockford again pulled ahead with a run in the fourth but the Eagles took back the lead in the fifth. Pierce took the first pitch she saw into center which scored Alyssa Schulting and then Unser brought in Landon for a 4-3 lead.
After five and a half complete, Edgewood College was holding to a slim one-run lead when the Regents rallied late yet again. The Regents' Lisa Snyder-Blakeley connected for a single which brought in two runs for a 5-4 lead before Karlie Klossner forced flyout to end the inning. The Eagles registered two hits in the seventh, but failed to score and fell for their third straight loss.
Unser was 3-for-3 on the day, all in game two, with a pair of runs batted in. Clark brought in three with her triple and finished the day 2-for-4 with two sacrifice hits. Landon pounded out a pair of doubles and scored four runs in a 3-for-7 effort. Schulting and Diesch also earned three hits on the day.
The Eagles will be back at home on Saturday and Sunday for a pair of doubleheaders. Edgewood College will play Concordia Chicago on Saturday at noon and Dominican University at noon on Sunday. Live stats will be provided.
