VERONA, Wis. – In the past few doubleheaders, the Edgewood College softball team found a way to win one of two, but could never earn the sweep. On Friday afternoon, the Eagles paired impressive pitching with timely hitting for a 5-3, 6-1 sweep over Lakeland College.

After a one-out double turned into a run for Lakeland in the first, Dylan Bahrke responded with a solo home run in the second to tie 1-1. In the third, Katie Landon ripped her second home run of the year over the right center fence to start a four-run rally. Alexis Unser added an RBI single and Rachel DeJongh scored on a passed ball for a 5-1 advantage.

The Muskies (13-21, 5-15 NACC) got an unearned run back in the fourth and one more in the sixth after a leadoff triple, but that is all DeJongh would yield in the circle, earning her 10th win of the year. The sophomore struck out six while scattering just five hits in the victory.

Game two began with a wild first inning as Edgewood College (18-17, 8-12 NACC) tallied six in the frame. After Kylie Clark drew a walk, Carlene DeCoster reached on a Muskie error. Katie Landon walked to load the bases, bringing Alyssa Schulting to the dish. Schulting hit a comebacker to the pitcher, but the throw home was late and the bases stated juiced. A wild pitch allowed DeCoster to score and Jackie Diesch brought in Landon with a single. Taylor McLean then singled to right field which plated another and Alexis Unser capped the rally with a two-run single.

The six-run first was all the Eagles needed as Karlie Klossner took care of business on the rubber. Klossner brought her best stuff, as she spread just five hits in seven innings while striking out three and walking none. Lakeland notched an unearned run in the third, but Klossner got Brittany Jurek to pop up and end the inning.

Bahrke had a solid day at the plate, going 3-for-6 with two runs scored and her second home run of the year. Diesch and Landon each had two hits and two runs scored while Unser brought in three with her two hits. Kylie Clark also had two hits on the day. DeJongh and Klossner combined for an ERA of just 1.00 and nine strikeouts.
