Box Score 2 FOND DU LAC, Wis. – When the game is on the line late this season, the Edgewood College softball team has been rather solid this season, but this time it was Marian University who pulled out a late-inning victory. The Sabres scored a 4-3 walk-off win in the first game before the Eagles downed Marian 7-5 in game two.
Alyssa Schulting put the Eagles on the board first as she scored Carlene DeCoster from third on a groundout. It did not take long for Marian to bounce back as they tied it in the second and scored a run in the fourth and fifth for a 3-1 lead. Jackie Diesch brought the Eagles back within one as she ripped a home run for the second straight game.
In the seventh, Katie Landon brought in Alexis Unser to tie the game at three, but Marian still had one last chance for the win. Rachel Andres singled to lead off and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. The next batter hit it to third, but a throwing error allowed Andres to score the walk-off victory. Karlie Klossner pitched 4.0 innings, giving up two earned runs while Rachel DeJongh was charged with the loss despite pitching 2.1 innings and not allowing an earned run.
The Eagles again tallied runs in the first inning of game two for a lead as Kylie Clark and DeCoster scored on a Marian error. After the Sabres knotted it up 2-2 in the second, Edgewood College responded with three in the third. Landon led the rally with a double and scored on a fielder's choice before Tiffani Pierce doubled in two more.
Marian put one more on the board in the third, but the Eagles continued to add runs. Three straight singles by Clark, DeCoster, and Landon loaded the bases and Dylan Bahrke pushed a double to the left center gap which plated a pair and gave Edgewood College a 7-3 lead. In the fifth, Marian scored two runs with two outs but could not plate another and the Eagles pulled out a 7-5 win. Diesch picked up the win to improve to 3-0 in the circle this season.
DeCoster finished the day with four hits in eight at-bats while Landon and Unser each had three. Bahrke had just one hit but brought in three runs for the Eagles.
The Eagles will wrap up the regular season this weekend as they host Lakeland College on Friday before heading to Milwaukee for a doubleheader against Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday. Edgewood College's home game on Friday will begin at 2:00 p.m.
