MILWAUKEE, Wis. –The Edgewood College softball team, together with Alverno College, put on an offensive show at the Inferno's home field in Milwaukee. The two teams combined for 32 runs on 41 hits in two games and despite giving up a lead and falling in 9-6 in game one, the Eagles bounced back to take game two 10-7.

Charlie Leikness toed the rubber in the first game and after getting two quick outs, Alvero's Emily Ortner singled before Stef Wilmore connected for a two-run homer to give the Inferno (8-6, 2-4 NAC) an early lead. The Eagles responded in the first after Jessica Spitzer walked and later scored on an error.

After surrendering a run in the third, the Eagles rallied to take the lead in the fourth. Edgewood College's first two batters were retired, but Lindsey Elsing stroked a 3-2 pitch over the fence for her first home run of the season. After Tiffani Pierce reached on an error and Carlene DeCoster walked, Rachel DeJongh singled to plate Pierce. Spitzer then poked the first pitch she saw through the left side to score DeCoster and Jackie Diesch cleared the bases with a double. Alverno then retired the next batter, but not before the Eagles jumped out to a 6-3 lead.

Edgewood College's lead did not sink in though, as Alverno pounded out two hits to score a pair of runs in the fifth. The Inferno then added four more on three hits in the seventh behind a grand slam from Ashleigh Sagat. Trailing 9-6, Edgewood College began to mount another rally in the seventh, but a lineout double play ended any hope of a comeback.

In game two, the Inferno again jumped out early, scoring three runs, but Edgewood College (5-15, 3-1 NAC) retaliated with a four run first behind a two-run bomb from Spitzer. From the circle, DeJongh kept the Inferno relatively quiet after the first inning, giving up only five hits across the next five innings.

The Eagles were already in the lead 5-3, but broke the game open in the fourth as they pounded out five hits. Elsing led off with a double then scored on Pierce's single. After a pitching change helped the Inferno get one out, DeJongh ripped a double to left center to plate Pierce. Spitzer and Diesch followed with RBI singles and both scored to give Edgewood College a 10-5 advantage.

Alverno College gave the Eagles a scare as they scored four runs in the seventh off of Diesch pitching in relief, but DeJongh returned to the game to get three outs and give Edgewood College their third conference victory.

Diesch combined to go 5-for-8 on the day with three runs batted in while Spitzer finished 4-for-6 with two home runs and four runs batted in and two walks. Both of Spitzer's home runs came in a 3-for-3 performance in the Eagles victory. Elsing had three hits on the day including a home run.

Edgewood College will continue their road trip as they head to River Forest, Ill. to take on Dominican University for a doubleheader beginning at noon. Live stats will be provided with a link available on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
