MEQUON, Wis. – The wear and tear of having ten games in six days has started to show for the Edgewood College softball team. Due to the terrible weather in the early spring, early postponements have filled any off days the Eagles normally would have had. Edgewood College only picked up seven hits in two games as the Eagles dropped a doubleheader to Concordia University Wisconsin 7-1 and 5-1.

Despite Edgewood College getting runners aboard on 11 different occasions in the opener, it did not show in the Eagles' average. Edgewood College drew eight walks, but failed to plate any more than a single run because the Eagles could only knock out three base-hits.

Meanwhile, Concordia Wisconsin roughed up Rachel DeJongh for three hits, three runs, and three walks in the first two innings to bring on Charlie Leikness in relief. The junior handled the Falcons without a problem until the fifth inning when Concordia Wisconsin scored three runs on a pair of hits. The Falcons added one more in the sixth and took game one 7-1.

In the nightcap, the Eagles again struggled to find base hits. Edgewood College did, however, notch the first run of the game in the second inning as Tiffani Pierce led off with a single down the right field line. Pierce moved over on a sacrifice bunt from Alyssa Schulting and then scored as the Falcons tried to peg Dylan Bahrke, but the throw sailed into the outfield.

Concordia Wisconsin retaliated with a run in the bottom of the inning and another in the third. With a 2-1 lead, the Falcons then got to Eagles' starter Karlie Klossner for a run in the fourth and a pair in the fifth. Two of the Eagles' hits came in the sixth inning, but Edgewood College failed to score as Concordia Wisconsin's Melissa Perkins forced a groundout.

Carlene DeCoster picked up two of Edgewood College's three hits in the first game and Pierce matched that with a pair of base knocks in game two.

Edgewood College will host Lakeland College tomorrow in a single game before making a Northern Athletics Conference tournament push with back-to-back doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
