MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College volleyball team pulled out the big guns for their Northern Athletics Conference home opener. The Eagles hammered home 57 kills and had a season-high .322 attack percentage in a convincing 3-1 triumph over Wisconsin Lutheran College at the Todd Wehr Edgedome on Wednesday night. The victory extended the Eagles winning streak to three matches.

Edgewood College (9-4, 2-1 NAC) never trailed in the first set, but really took command with a 9-2 run in the middle of the set. Mallory Palmer had two kills with Jessica Martin, Kaitlyn Rabel, Sarah Schuchhardt and Jessica Martin adding one each in the run which opened up a 20-12 Eagle lead. Wisconsin Lutheran College (5-8, 0-3 NAC) rallied back to within three points at 21-18, but a block by Palmer and Rabel restarted the Eagles and Schuchhardt finished the set 25-20 with her third kill of the match.

It might have been a sweep, if not for a defensive lapse by the Eagles and some powerful attacks from the Warriors' sister tandem of Erin and Alayna Greenfield. The couple combined for 12 kills as Wisconsin Lutheran hit .432 in the second set to pull out a 25-23 victory. The Eagles had rallied back from 19-13 deficit to tie the match at 21-21 and again at 23-23, but a block by the Warriors' Katie Molter and Alayna Greenfield's fourth kill of the set evened the match at one apiece.

Losing the second set flipped the switch, however, as the Eagles stormed out to take an 8-1 lead in the third set. Palmer had three kills while Edgewood College setter Lindsey Swansby added one of her own. Edgewood College pushed the margin all the way to 18-5 on back-to-back kills by Jennifer Lenz and Martin on their way to a 25-12 third set romp.

Momentum stayed on the Edgewood College side of the floor in the fourth set. Rachel Thomsen served off four straight points to open up a 14-8 lead and force a Warrior timeout. After Wisconsin Lutheran cut it to 16-12, Rachel Tesch served out five straight points backed by three kills from Palmer and an ace of her own. Ultimately, Schuchhardt ended the match with a kill to give the Eagles a 25-15 fourth set win.

Palmer scored her third 20-kill match and seventh double-double this season with 20 kills and a season-high 19 digs. Martin piled up 12 kills, while Schuchhardt added nine kills. Swansby topped 40 assists for the second match in a row, with 49 dishes. After Palmer's 19 digs, Eagle libero Sam Himmespach had 18 digs.

Wisconsin Lutheran was paced by Erin Greenfield with 12 kills, while Alayna Greenfield and Kelli Johnson had nine kills each. Libero Kayla Ridgeman recorded a match-high 28 digs.

Edgewood College will be home on Saturday for a triangular as part of the Edgewood College Athletic Alumni Reunion Weekend. The Eagles will face Cardinal Stritch University at 11:30 a.m. and then play Lawrence University at approximately 3:00 depending on the length of the two preceding matches.
