Benedictine stops Eagles in NAC Tournament opener

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Edgewood College baseball team fell behind in the early innings against Benedictine University and couldn't solve the Benedictine pitching staff in a 10-3 Northern Athletics Conference Tournament loss. Edgewood College now faces an elimination game tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. against sixth-seeded Dominican University.

Benedictine University (27-14) led 1-0 when they exploded for five runs in the third innings. The big blow came in the form of a three-run home run to right field off the bat of Tim Gindville. Edgewood College (17-22) gained a run back in the top of the fifth inning. Ryan O'Dell and Sean Thompson singled with one out to put runners on second and third. O'Dell then came home on a wild pitch delivered to Ryan Walker.

Benedictine led 7-1 when Edgewood College added another run in the seventh inning. Pinch hitter Will Schlosser brought home O'Dell with an RBI fielder's choice to cut the lead to 7-2, but Benedictine's Nick Karakosta's two-run triple sparked a three-run seventh and Benedictine held a commanding 10-2 lead.

Edgewood College's final run came in the eighth inning when Thompson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
O'Dell led the Eagles with two hits including a double off the right field wall. Jake Thome also went 2-for-3, while Brad Clark was 2-for-5. Trevor Koehn started the game on the mound for Edgewood College and took loss. He went three and one-third innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out two batters.

Edgewood College will now face elimination in every game they play in the NAC Tournament. The fifth-seeded Eagles will start tomorrow morning against sixth-seeded Dominican University. The Stars lost to top-seeded Aurora University 11-1 in the first game of the tournament. The Eagles and Stars will start the day in Fond du Lac at 10:00 a.m.
