Game Recap: Baseball |

Shumaker, Tor gems propel Eagles to sweep of Green Knights

VERONA, Wis. – Baseball kicked off a stretch of seven home games in their next eight outings Wednesday at Stampfl Field. They took on the St. Norbert Green Knights in a NACC doubleheader. The Eagles (13-9, 7-3 NACC) cruised off of back-to-back complete games, shutting down the Green Knights (13-11, 3-7) in 4-2 and 10-0 victories.

GAME ONE: EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 4, ST. NORBERT 2
- While the first three innings were dominated by the pitchers, the Eagles broke through in a big way in the fourth. A Dominic Lee three-run home run to center field put Edgewood University ahead 3-0.

- The two squads exchanged runs in the fifth. An RBI single from the Green Knights put them on the board, while Hayden Hellenbrand took a hit by pitch with the bases loaded for a 4-1 lead.

- An RBI double to right field in the sixth kept St. Norbert on the Eagles' toes, but Aiden Shumaker completely shut down the Green Knights. Only one runner made it past first in the final three innings, including a three-strikeout top of the ninth to seal the deal.

- Shumaker posted a complete game beauty in the win. He allowed one earned run, walked no one, and struck out 15 batters.

GAME TWO: EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 10, ST. NORBERT 0 (SEVEN INNINGS)
- The Eagles got after the Green Knights in the first inning and never let up. Aidan Kammer, Mac Vesperman, Lee, and Ryan Harris all hit singles to right center to tally a run each. After Kyle Prindle took a hit by pitch to plate another, a pivotal error from the Green Knights helped the Eagles add two more for a seven-run first.

- The Green Knights had no answers for Mark Tor, his pitching keeping the visitors scoreless while Edgewood University kept the pressure on. A Hellenbrand two-run home run down the left field line in the third sent in a pair, while Kammer pushed things to run rule territory with an RBI single in the fifth.

- Only two St. Norbert runners reached past first in the victory. Tor struck out seven and walked only one for a complete game victory.

- Prindle hit 3-for-3 with a pair of runs. Kammer, Harris, and Ben Truby each posted two hits in the victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles have posted three-straight complete game victories, holding opponents to just three runs scored.

- Shumaker's 15 strikeouts in game one is tied for the second most in program history. The total only trails Dave Scheidell's 16 strikeouts against Maranatha Baptist (May 6, 2002).

- With their two home runs in the doubleheader, Edgewood University's 26 home runs this season are the second-most in program history. They lag behind only the 2002 squad with 34 home runs.

- The Eagles are now 9-8 all-time against the Green Knights
