LAKE GENEVA, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's golf team fired a 36-hole score of 637, which is 14 strokes better than their previous low this season. Behind the Eagles' best round of the year, Edgewood College placed fifth at the MSOE Invitational.
After shooting a season low score of 314 on the Highland Course, Edgewood College finished round one in second place. Round two of the tournament was scheduled to play on The Brute, and the course lived up to the name, proving more difficult on average for the entire field. The Eagles fired a 323 on Monday and were just edged out by MSOE for fourth place. Edgewood College finished the tournament with a two day total of 637, just one back of MSOE and three behind third place finisher Elmhurst College. Patrick Bohrer was the top finisher for the Eagles as he posted a 76 on Sunday followed by a 77 to finish tied for seventh with a 10 over par 153.
Kenny Rucker also shot a 76 during round one and finished tied for 12th with a 155. Tyler Cobb carded the next lowest round for the Eagles with a 164. T.J. Klement and Michael Mathwick rounded out the top five for Edgewood College with a 166 and 170, respectively.
Six of the top seven scores at the event belonged to golfers from Carthage College, who won the MSOE Invitational by 23 strokes with a team score of 596. Carthage posted a second round of 292 which was just four over par. Ben Schroeder earned the medalist honor after he shot a 75 followed by a three under par 69 for a two day total of 144.
Edgewood College will look to take the momentum from this tournament to La Crosse this weekend for the Viterbo Ronnie Eastman Invitational. The two day tournament will begin on October 7.
