2012 Northern Athletics Conference Champions
Box Score

MADISON, Wis. - It was a busy, busy night in the Todd Wehr Edgedome, but the Edgewood College volleyball team made sure to take care of their business. The Eagles rolled over Alverno College 25-9, 25-14, 25-9 on Sideout Cancer Night to clinch their first ever Northern Athletics Conference title. The title is a huge landmark for the program who hadn't won a conference title since 1996.

The victory for Edgewood College (23-5, 11-1 NAC) was also the 100th career victory for head coach Paul Schlomer who took over in 2006 and has engineered a dramatic turnaround in the Eagles' volleyball program. Prior to Schlomer's arrival the Eagles hadn't had a winning record since 1998. This victory puts Schlomer just three wins from Kelly Witte's Edgewood College record of 103 victories from 1992-96.

Edgewood College was able to use the entire roster in defeating Alverno College (3-20, 0-10 NAC). The Eagles were led by Mallory Palmer and Jessica Martin who scored seven kills apiece, while Katie Wedvick added six kills in seven attempts. Lindsey Swansby had team-highs in both digs with six and assists with 19. Swansby increased her career assist total to 3,249 moving her past Christine Weis and into second place on the school's all-time assists list. She now trails only Lisa Wendt who had 3,465 assists from 1990-93.

Prior to the match Mallory Palmer was presented with the game ball from last Saturday's match against St. Norbert College. In that match Palmer broke the Edgewood College all-time kills record with her 1,660th kill. Palmer currently stands at 1,693 career kills. Former record holder, Edgewood College Hall of Fame member Mandie (Armstrong) Barr, was in attendance to congratulate Palmer on the new record.

Friday's match was also Sideout Cancer Night, organized by the Edgewood College volleyball team and led by Sam Himmelspach and Katie Wedvick. Admission proceeds, T-shirt sales and donations from fans were all given to support the Breast Cancer Recovery Foundation in their work to assist cancer patients, survivors and their families.

Edgewood College will face a gauntlet of quality teams tomorrow at the UW-Whitewater Invitational. The Eagles open with UW-River Falls before facing the 17th-ranked host Warhawks and finishing with Illinois Wesleyan University. Edgewood College's first match begins at 10:00 a.m. in Whitewater.
