Spitzer leads Eagles at UW-Eau Claire Invite

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's golf team opened their 2010-11 season at the Georgianni Memorial UW-Eau Claire Invitational and showed consistent play over the two day event. After shooting a 376 on day one, the Eagles shot 377 on the second day to finish in 17th place out of 21 teams.

Jessica Spitzer posted the Eagles best round on the second day with an 89. She shot a 94 on day one to lead the team with a two-day total of 183. Jenna Pfeffer wasn't far behind, posing a tournament total of 187, including a 91 on the first day.

Amanda Bliske and Emily Guderyon rounded out the team with two-day totals of 189 and 194, respectively. Bliske shot a 91 in the first round and followed it with a 96 while Guderyon improved on her day one score of 98 with a 96 in the second round.

Gustavus Adolphus College won the event with a two-day total of 653 while St. Olaf College placed second with a total of 655. Mary Welch of UW-Stevens Point was the medalist, shooting 73-83 for a total of 156.

The Eagles will be on the course again next weekend at the Knox College Invitational and the Monmouth College Invitational. The events will take place on Friday and Saturday at Gibson G.C. in Monmouth, Illinois.
