Box Score (vs. North Park)

FORT MYERS, Fla. – After winning both games yesterday, the Edgewood College softball team jumped ahead of Amherst College early. However, that was the high point of the afternoon as Amherst came back to win the game 3-1. In game two, North Park University scored seven runs in the first two innings and never looked back, taking the contest 9-0.

In game one, Bria Hahn reached on an infield single before Jessica Spitzer followed with another single in the first inning. Next, Pam Sommer laced the Eagles' third consecutive single that scored Hahn and put the Eagles up 1-0.

However, Amherst (6-3) answered in the next two innings. In the first inning, Theresa Kelley scored on a Carolyn Miller single to tie the game. The Lord Jeffs took the lead in the second inning when Jillian Masi came in to score on an error after she tripled to left center.

In the sixth inning, Amherst added an insurance run, which came on a throwing error to give the Lord Jeffs two unearned runs and a 3-1 lead heading into the seventh inning.

In the final frame, Monica Humphrey led off with a single, but the Eagles could not bring her around as Amherst took the game 3-1. Spitzer led the Eagles at the plate as she went 2-for-3 and Hahn scored the Eagles only run.

The fortune did not get any better in the second game as North Park University (8-2) came out and scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning. The Vikings then exploded for six runs in the second inning, highlighted by a Jessica Refojo three-run home run to left center field. North Park tacked on two runs in the fourth inning and took the game 9-0 in five innings. Edgewood College (4-8) recorded four hits in the contest, all by different players.

The Eagles will wrap up play at the Gene Cusic Classic tomorrow when the play Hamilton College and The College of Wooster. First pitch is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. eastern time. Edgewood College will provide live stats for both contests, the link can be found on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
