RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Eagles defeated Concordia University Chicago, 17-3, in game one and inched a little bit closer to capturing the No. 6 seed in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament. Game two was ruled "no contest" due to Concordia Chicago's conflict with final exams, moving Edgewood College's record to 18-17 overall and 13-9 in the NAC.They'll move across town to Dominican for an 8:00 p.m. doubleheader tonight to determine their NAC Tournament fate.
Edgewood College pounded out 17 runs on 20 hits in the win. The first five hitters in the lineup combined to go 16-for-22 at the plate, including 4-for-4 efforts by Colleen Joyce and Jamie Kurt, both of which hit a home run in the contest. In fact, they went back-to-back in what amounted to a 10-run sixth inning. Joyce's home run gave her 10 for the season which sets an Edgewood College single season home run record, previously held by Kurt who accomplished the feat last season.
Kurt might have lost one record this game, but she still made history in her own right. The senior hit for the cycle for the first time in her career. After a first inning walk, she singled in the third, doubled in the fourth and homered and tripled in the sixth inning to finish 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.
Kristen Salvatore started the offensive attack in the first inning with a grand slam, her second home run of the season. Jenna Ryan earned the win to move to 12-10 on the year.
The Eagles are chasing Concordia University Wisconsin who won both of their games with Wisconsin Lutheran tonight, 3-2 and 3-0, and have put pressure on the Eagles to win their last two games. The Falcons sit at 14-10 in the NAC and hold the tie-breaker over Edgewood College.
