JANESVILLE, Wis. - The Edgewood College women's golf team found themselves within striking distance going into the final day at the Northern Athletics Conference Championship, but couldn't overcome Concordia University Wisconsin's six-stroke lead and placed second for the second consecutive season. The Eagles can claim two of the league three top golfers, as Amanda Bliske finished second and Jessica Spitzer placed third.
Bliske, who also finished second in 2008, broke 90 each day firing an 87 on Sunday and an 88 on Monday, but it wasn't enough to catch Concordia Wisconsin's Muriel McIntyre who won her second straight NAC individual title with a Championship-record score of 166. Spitzer shot a 92 and a 91 for a two-day total of 183 to edge Concordia Wisconsin's Lea Jondal for third place by a single stroke.
Freshman Emilee Guderyon placed seventh in her first conference championship event, shooting 91 on the second day for a total of 187. The Eagles' other two players, Mary Moore and Stephanie Leahan placed 18th and 20th making the Eagles the only team to put all five golfers in the top 20. Moore shot a 213 and Leahan a 221 to round out the squad.
The Eagles were the only school to put three student-athletes on the all-Northern Athletics Conference team. Bliske, Spitzer and Guderyon all received first team all-conference honors for their performance in the regular season and at the NAC Championships.
