HAVEN, Wis. - Edgewood College senior Aaron Gavin played two perfectly consistent rounds and then survived a sudden-death playoff to capture individual medalist honors at the Northern Athletics Conference Men's Golf Championship. Behind Gavin, the Eagles finished second, trailing NAC Champion Aurora University by 10 strokes.

Gavin, a senior from South Milwaukee, fired a 75 on each day on the Irish Course at Whistling Straits. He was so consistent that his front nine scorecards from Monday and Tuesday were exact duplicates, hole for hole. His two-day total of 150 tied him Aurora's Brandon Vicory, the NAC's Player of the Year, and forced a sudden death playoff.

Gavin and Vicory headed back to the first hole where their day had begun five hours earlier. After a pair of safe drives, Vicory's second shot landed in the backside rough. Gavin stepped up and hit the shot of the tournament; a mid-iron that landed six feet from the pin and stuck. After Vicory pushed his chip just a few feet past the cup, Gavin calmly drained a birdie putt and celebrated with a fist pump that would make Tiger Woods proud.

Gavin and Vicory's score of 150 tied them for the lowest two-day score in NAC Championship history with R.J. Schwalbach of Benedictine University in 2008.

Edgewood College entered Tuesday six shots behind the Spartans, but couldn't make up any ground, finishing with a two-day score of 630. Brent Quade shot a 77 on Monday and finished in 8th place with a score of 159. Mark Fields was nearly as steady as Gavin shooting an 81 and an 82 to place 15th. Mike Battista and Logan Kranz tied for 16th with scores of 165.

Gavin, Battista and Quade were all named to the 10-member NAC All-Conference team based on their scores from the NAC Championship and the two pre-conference meets during the regular season.

The Eagles have now concluded the fall portion of their schedule. They will resume in the spring and attempt to earn the Northern Athletics Conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.
