JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's golf team found the competition stiff in their season opening meet at the Illinois College Invitational. The young Eagles placed 12th with a two-day total of 848, but did manage to improve their score on the second day by four strokes.
Freshman Amanda Bliske led the team with a 92 on Sunday to finish with a 187, good enough for 40th place. Fellow freshman Ashley Southern tallied 199 to stay within the top 60 competitors. Rounding out the team was sophomore Erin Schaefer with a 205, sophomore Stephanie Leahan with a 257 and freshman Lorraine Heim shot a 267.
William Woods University won the event with a two-day total of 617, outdistancing runner-up Millikin University by 65 strokes. The Eagles will be back in action on September 12 at the Loras College Invitational in Dubuque, Iowa.
