MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Apr. 19, 2008) – Edgewood College needed eight innings to put away Alverno College in game one while using a six-run inning to rally for the game two win to escape Milwaukee with the sweep. The Eagles won game one 3-2, thanks to a
Brittany Rynes RBI in the eighth and won game two 11-7.
Colleen Joyce hit her first home run of the season while
Jamie Kurt went yard twice in game two.

Brittany Rynes drove in two runs, including the game winner in extra innings as the Eagles took game one 3-2 in eight innings. A
Colleen Joyce solo home run gave the Eagles the 1-0 lead after three innings. The Inferno answered in the fifth with a two-out RBI double by Megan Burgess to knot the score. In the sixth, Rynes hit a RBI single to give the Eagles the 2-1 lead. In the next half-inning the Inferno would once again tie the score, thanks to a Brianne Porter RBI single. Neither team would score in the seventh to send the game into extra innings. In the top of the eight, Rynes drove in her second RBI of the day, hitting a single allowing
Kristen Salvatore to score the go-ahead run.
Jenna Ryan (10-6) would retire the side in order to pick up the win. Ryan pitched eight innings, striking out six while Alverno's Jessica Goetz (4-7) was saddled with the loss, pitching all eight innings.
Colleen Joyce finished the game three-for-five with an RBI while
Brittany Rynes was three-for-four with two RBIs.
An Alverno fielding error with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning proved costly as Edgewood College capitalized scoring six unearned runs to regain the lead, winning 11-7 to sweep the series. The Inferno jumped out to the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first before the Eagles would tie the score at two apiece in the bottom of the first. Alverno added two runs in the second and one in the third to mount a 5-2 lead. In the bottom of the third
Jamie Kurt hit a lead-off home run helping the Eagles bring the score to within one run before tying the game at five apiece in the fourth inning. The Inferno retook the lead in the fifth scoring two runs before the Eagles slammed the door on the Inferno, scoring six runs in the fifth.
Jamie Kurt blasted a two-run shot in the fifth, her second home run of the game. Rachel Elliot pitched four innings for the Eagles while
Jenna Ryan (11-6) picked up the win, pitching three innings. Jessica Goetz (4-8) once again suffered the loss for the Inferno, pitching the final two innings. Five Eagles finished the game with multiple hits with Kurt and
Colleen Joyce leading the team with three RBIs each.
With the wins, Edgewood College remains perfect against Alverno, winning all 11 contests in the series history.
The Eagles improve to 15-11 and 10-6 in conference play while the Inferno fall to 9-19 overall and 4-12 in Northern Athletics Conference action. Tomorrow's game against UW-Stevens Point has been postponed, giving the team a much needed rest day before playing three straight home doubleheaders starting on Monday. Monday's game is versus Dominican with the first pitch slated for 4 p.m.
