FORT MYERS, Fla. (Mar. 19, 2008) -- Jamie Kurt was three-for-three at the plate while Monica Humphrey drove in two runs as the Eagles snapped a two game losing streak, defeating Brockport State (N.Y.) 5-1 at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
A Jamie Kurt single kick started the second inning that saw Edgewood College score two runs to take the lead. Brittany Rynes singled and advanced to second on a throwing error, while Kurt crossed the plate for the team's first run of the game. Rynes would advance to third on a wild pitch before Jenna Ryan singled to send her home.
Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Rachel Maxon hit a lead-off double to start the inning. A Courtney Turchan groundout advanced Maxon to third while a Lindsay Szymanski sac fly the next at bat drove in the Golden Eagles only run of the day.
Jamie Kurt finished the game three-for-three with two doubles while Monica Humphrey was one-for-four with two RBIs. Jennifer Stephens and Brittany Rynes both had two hits in the game. No Brockport State player had more than one hit in the game.
Jenna Ryan pitched her third complete game of the season, improving her record to 3-3 on the mound. Ryan struck out four batters and now has 108 strikeouts in her career. Hollie Ary picked up the loss for the Golden Eagles, pitching all seven innings, recording six strikeouts and yielding three earned runs.
The win improves the Eagles record to 3-4 overall while the Brockport State Golden Eagles fall to 5-3. The Edgewood College victory evens the all-time series at two wins apiece. The Eagles return to action later today for a game against Lasell College (Mass.). It is the first ever meeting between the Lasers and the Eagles.
