FORT MYERS, Fla. (Mar. 17, 2008) -- Edgewood College rebounded after losing two consecutive extra inning games, defeating Western New England (Mass) 5-4 on Monday afternoon in Fort Myers, Fla. The Eagles had lost 7-6 on Sunday to Bowdoin (Mass.) and 5-4 on Monday morning to New Paltz State (N.Y.) both in eight innings.
The Eagles scored three runs in the third and one in the fourth to build a 4-0 advantage. The Golden Bears looked to rally, scoring two runs in the sixth and one in the ninth, but it was not enough. Jenna Ryan (2-2) pitched her first complete game of the season striking out three batters and picking up the win. Leslie Bell had two hits in the game, she was the only Edgewood College player to have more than one hit in the game.
With the win the Eagles get back to .500 at 2-2 overall while the Golden Bears drop their second straight game falling to 2-4. Edgewood College is now 3-0 all-time versus Western New England. Edgewood College returns to action tomorrow for a pair of games against Richard Stockton (N.J.) at 4 p.m. and Plymouth State (N.H.) and 6 p.m.
