Year in Review: Women's Soccer

The Edgewood College women's soccer program recorded their most successful season under head coach Derek Helmer. The Eagles finished their season 11-5-2, 7-3-2 (NACC), their best finish since the 2016 season. Their season included a 11-1-1 start in which they didn't lose a contest from September 4 to October 12. 

The Eagles finished fourth in conference action and earned their second trip to the NACC tournament in three years. The first round match up came against Concordia Wisconsin, the eventual tournament champion.

The Eagles were well-represented with All-NACC honors. Head Coach Derek Helmer and his staff gained his first NACC Coaching Staff of the Year honors, while Grace Johnson, Rylee Brotz, Greta Blau, and Leah Doucette were recognized as well. Johnson, Brotz, and Blau were named Second Team All-Conference, while Doucette gained Honorable Mention recognition. 

Mandy Fitzgerald and Marley Satran were named 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team for their high level of play on the pitch and outstanding work in the classroom. 

Edgewood College was also the recipient of the 2022 College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship award, announced by the United Soccer Coaches. 

15 Eagles were named NACC Scholar-Athletes: Kailey Adamski, Elizabeth Bowen, Lauren Clark, Sierra Connell, Leah Doucette, Sydney Feldner, Mandy Fitzgerald, Iley Guenther, Tierney Herman, Grace Johnson, Madigan Johnstone, Kayla Kerkman, Madison Miles, Marley Satran, and Zoe Winter. 

Winning Ways

From September 4 to October 12 the Edgewood College women's soccer program dominated both non-conference and NACC opponents. Over the course of the 11 game streak, the Eagles outscored opponents 35 to 3. The Eagles recorded nine shutout wins, including an 8-0 win over Mount Mary (September 9) and 6-0 conference defeat of Lakeland (October 12). 

One of the Eagles closer contest came against Benedictine University on Saturday, October 8. With the game tied 1-1 in the 23rd minute, Rylee Brotz netted the second goal for Edgewood College, assisted by Kamy Luecke. Both teams would record another goal before halftime, but the second goal from Brotz would be the difference in the 3-2 final.
