HOW IT HAPPENED
- The top players from the region compete in the ITA brackets and the Eagles had a strong showing in those, highlighted by
Cecile Fuchs going 2-1. Fuchs won twice on Friday, going 6-0, 6-2 in her first draw before a 6-1, 6-1 win in the second. She was defeated by the tournament's top seed, Grace Riermann of Bethel, who is still alive in the tournament.
- Murphy and Carew won two doubles matches to advance to Saturday, winning 8-6 and 8-7 (7-4). They fell on Saturday by an 8-2 score against the seven seed in the tournament.
- Murphy was sensational in her 14-player bracket, going 4-0 for a championship. In the final, she defeated Tea Armstrong of UW-Eau Claire, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3). Three of Murphy's wins need a tiebreak set. She opened with a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) win over Chloe Leithold of UW-Stevens Point and won her second match by a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (14-12) score of Rachel Papp of Carroll.
