THE EAGLES
- The Eagles are excited to get back on the diamond after playing just four games last year before COVID-19 cut the season short. Edgewood College opened last year in Jackson, Mississippi as well, playing four games at Millsaps College. The Eagles went 1-3, defeating Millsaps and falling to Centenary twice and Eureka once.
- Two transfers on the 2020 team had strong starts last year in
Jacob Slonim and
Peyton Henry. Henry hit .400 in two starts and led the team with three runs scored, while Slonim led the team in hits (5) and doubles (2).
-
Eric Nelson picked up the win in the game against Millsaps last year, as Nelson was one of two pitchers (
Leo Stone) to make two appearances in the shortened 2020 season. Of the 12 arms used last year, 10 of those players return.
- The Eagles always return an experienced group of hitters. Six players started in all four games last season, and all six of those players return to the team this spring. Slonim,
Kyle Semrad,
Alex Prindle,
Adam Cairo,
Cooper Holewinski, and
Joseph Kalafut all started each game a season ago.
-
Al Brisack is set to begin his 21st season leading the Eagles. Brisack has 386 career wins and is the winningest skipper in Eagles history.
THE OPPONENTS
- For now the Eagles are scheduled to face Centenary and Huntingdon. Centenary is a familiar foe, as the Eagles and Gents met twice last season. Centenary will have the advantage of already having played in 2021 as they own a 2-0 record with wins over Louisiana College and East Texas Baptist.
- Huntingdon will be playing its first game when they face off with the Eagles on Saturday at 3 p.m. eastern. The Hawks did play 15 games last year before the cancelation of the season and posted a 9-6 record.
- If the Eagles were to add a game against Belhaven, the Blazers are off to a 2-1 start this season. All three of those games were played agaisnt Piedmont College last weekend.
