VERONA, Wis. – Baseball opened up Stampfl Field for the first time in 2026 Tuesday. They took on the Marian Sabres in NACC action. The two squads split, with the Eagles (10-8, 4-2 NACC) putting together an 8-1 win in game two before the Sabres (7-12, 2-6) bounced back with a 6-4 victory in the nightcap.
GAME ONE: EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 8, MARIAN 1
- After shutting down the Sabres with bases loaded and no one out in the top of the first, the Eagles plated four in the bottom of the frame.
Jacob Carney singled in a pair to open up the scoring, before a
Dominic Lee single to left center and a
Carter Kelley walk wrapped up the explosive start.

Ben Truby grounded in a run in the third before Edgewood University piled it on in the fourth. Carney struck again with a single to right field to send in a run.
Aidan Kammer followed up with a sacrifice bunt before
Hayden Hellenbrand wrapped up the scoring for the hosts with an RBI double down the left field line.

Aiden Shumaker excelled in the start. He pitched seven innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out 10 Marian batters.
- Carney and Hellenbrand posted a pair of doubles. Carney swung 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs.
GAME TWO: MARIAN 6, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 4
- After a quiet first two innings, the Sabres scored the first run with a sacrifice fly in the third.
Kyle Prindle evened things up with a ground out, before Carney put the Eagles ahead 2-1 after three with a single through the left side.
- The two squads matched blow for blow in the fifth. Marian singled up the middle for one run before adding another with a sacrifice fly.
Charlie Tompach wiped out the gains with one swing, a towering shot to right center plating a pair of runs
- The Sabres got the better of the Eagles in the end. A pivotal error kept a seventh-inning rally alive and allowed two unearned runs for a 5-4 edge. A single to right center tacked on another for Marian in the ninth. Edgewood University had runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the ninth but couldn't break through as they fell.
- Ben Anderson was the story of the second game. He pitched a complete game for the Sabres, striking out five and allowing only two earned runs as he quieted the Eagles lineup.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Carney reached 100 career RBIs with Edgewood University with his three in game one
- Shumaker's stellar start with 10 strikeouts in game one sent his total as an Eagle past 100.

NACC action continues with a battle of the Eagles on Saturday. Edgewood University will head to Lisle, Ill. to take on Benedictine. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
