Eagles take down Warriors for Brisack's 500th Win

OCONOMOWOC, Wis. – It was a monumental day for Edgewood University Baseball Wednesday. They took on the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors at WBC Park for NACC action. The Eagles (9-7, 3-1 NACC) bounced back from a 13-11 loss in game one to the Warriors (5-10, 1-1) to claim Al Brisack's 500th victory as Edgewood University Baseball head coach with a 14-4 final in game two.

GAME ONE: WISCONSIN LUTHERAN 13, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 11
- The teams exchanged three-run homers in the first inning to set the tone for the day. Aidan Kammer sent one over the right field fence for the Eagles as the teams sat tied 3-3 after one.

- After the Warriors plated one in the second with a single up the middle and two in the third with outside singles, Edgewood University rallied in a big way in the fourth. A Charlie Tompach grand slam put the Eagles in the driver's seat ahead 7-6. A pair of runs with the bases loaded would help Wisconsin Lutheran retake the lead 8-7.

- The squads went blow for blow in the fifth and sixth. A Mac Vesperman homer was matched by a Warriors single in the fifth, while a Jacob Carney single helped Edgewood University keep pace in the sixth down 10-9.

- A two-run homer in the seventh pushed the Wisconsin Lutheran lead even further up to 12-9. While Vesperman continued his hot hitting with a two-run homer to right center in the eighth, the Warriors tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the frame and kept the Eagles scoreless in the ninth to secure the victory.

- Vesperman hit 3-for-5 with three RBIs, two home runs, and a double.

- Kyle Prindle recorded a pair of walks and runs.

- Colt Ratliff was key for Wisconsin Lutheran hitting 2-for-4 with five RBIs, two home runs, two walks, and three runs.

GAME TWO: EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 14, WISCONSIN LUTHERAN 4
- After a quiet first two innings, the Eagles struck first in the third. Prindle plated a run with an RBI to left center. Carney sent in another with a ground out to the pitcher before Kammer hit a sacrifice fly to right for a three-run edge.

- The Warriors got on the board with a double down the left field line in the fourth. They took advantage of a dropped fly by Edgewood University to single in a pair of unearned runs to tie things up 3-3.

- The squads kept in a dead heat through six innings. A Kammer single to center field and a Wisconsin Lutheran single to right in the fifth left things tied 4-4.

- While the Eagles took the lead with help from a fielding error in the seventh, a six-run eighth sent Edgewood University soaring. Vesperman sparked the rally with a solo shot to right field. Connor Mirocha kept the pressure on with a triple to center, followed by Carter Kelley sending a two-run home run over the right field fence. Prindle stole home on a double steal. Kammer wrapped up the damage in the inning with a RBI grounder to the shortstop.

- The Eagles put a bow on the second game with a three-run ninth, taking advantage of a pair of wild pitches and a bases-loaded walk to put things well out of reach for the Warriors.

- Tompach hit 3-for-4 with four runs as a key contributor in the lineup.

 - Cashton Jones and Cole Pulliam stepped up in a big way on the mound. Jones tossed five innings in the start with four strikeouts and two earned runs. Pulliam sealed the deal, tossing four scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- With the victory in game two, Brisack earned win 500 as head coach of Edgewood University baseball. He reached the mark in his 27th season coaching the program starting in 2000, including a shortened 2020 campaign that featured only four games.

- Edgewood University paces the NACC in home runs (23), slugging percentage (.535) and walks (94).
