Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team opened NACC play with a statement victory over Marian University on Saturday evening. The Eagles rolled to an 88-62 win with four players finishing the contest in double figures.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first big run of the game for Edgewood College (4-2, 1-0 NACC) came midway through the first half. After Marian (1-1, 0-1 NACC) tied the game at 12-12, the Eagles went on a 13-0 run to take a 25-12 advantage. The lead would hold in double digits for most of the remainder of the half as Edgewood College took a 38-26 lead into the break.
- Marian would get within nine a couple times in the second half but the Eagles lead was never threatened as they rolled to the 26-point victory.
- Balance has been a key factor for the Eagles all year and Saturday was no different with four players scoring in double figures.
Jake Schroeckenthaler scored 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting and
Caleb Holzman wad dialed in from deep, making 4-of-5 from 3-point range en route to 15 points.
Jake Negus added 12 points to go along with eight assists and seven rebounds, while
Eli Hartjes scored 10 points, while grabbing a team-best eight rebounds.
- The Eagles dominated inside once again with a 38-14 edge in points and a paint and a 48-27 advantage on the boards.
Jake Graf added six rebounds, finishing third on the team behind Hartjes and Negus.
- Edgewood College also shot the ball well on Saturday, making 33-of-59 (55.9 percent) from the floor and they made life miserable for Marian on the other end, holding them to 34.8 percent shooting (23-for-66).
- It was another night where the Eagles showed they were the deeper team as the Eagles bench outscored Marian's, 51-23. Three of the four Eagles (Schroeckenthaler, Holzman, Hartjes) who finished the game in double figures came off the bench on Saturday.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- This marks the second-straight season that Edgewood College has started 1-0 in conference play. Last year, the Eagles defeated Concordia University Chicago, 86-70, in the conference opener at home.
Ben Seefeld (33) and
Jake Negus (32) combined for 65 points in that win. Hartjes also scored 10 points in that game.
