Eagles fall to Scarlet Hawks comeback on Senior Day

MADISON, Wis. – Men's Basketball wrapped up their 2025-26 campaign Saturday. They hosted Illinois Tech for a Senior Day matchup at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. The Eagles (4-20, 4-14 NACC) had a strong first half, but the Scarlet Hawks (7-18, 5-13) completed the comeback with a relentless second half for a 68-64 victory.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Illinois Tech started out strong, ahead 7-2 at 16:18. Edgewood University peppered threes as they hung around, before a 9-0 run over 2:57 pushed the Eagles to a 22-16 edge at 8:54. The Scarlet Hawks closed with 22-20 at 7:53, but Edgewood University would hold them to two points for the rest of the first frame. Lights out defense and sharpshooting sent the Eagles to the locker room ahead 31-22.
 
- Edgewood University shot 8-of-17 (47.06 percent) from three-point land in the first half.
 
- Illinois Tech chipped away at the Eagle lead early in the second, a 10-4 rally pulling them within 35-32 at 16:17. Stout defense and rebounding helped Edgewood University rebuild their lead, pulling ahead 43-37 at 13:43. The Eagles continued to pour it on, a 6-2 run putting them ahead 49-39 with 10:50 to go.
 
- The Scarlet Hawks dominated the next five minutes. A 13-3 sprint over 5:33 brought them back to a 52-52 tie with 5:17 to go. Edgewood University and Illinois Tech wrestled over single-possession leads down the stretch. The Scarlet Hawks nursed a 63-61 edge with less than a minute to go, but a Hunter Hardyman and-one with :32 to go pulled the Eagles back into the lead. Illinois Tech would sink a three with 18 seconds to go and Edgewood University had no response.
 
- Garrison Carter was a force for the Scarlet Hawks in the victory. He earned a 24-point, 12-rebound double-double.
 
- Nicolas Ortiz came up with key baskets down the stretch for Illinois Tech, finishing with 16 points. Isaiah Dudley and Nick Galati had 12 and 11 points respectively.
 
- Hunter Hardyman shined on Senior Day, scoring 16 points and earning a pair of blocks.
 
- Avery Houden and Will Gretzinger posted 13 and 11 points respectively.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The game celebrated the careers of Hardyman, Trent Tousana, Connor Coombs, and Payton Bowser.
