MIDDLETON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Golf team only competed in one meet during the fall season, but they sure made it count with a dominant showing at the Edgewood College Triangular Monday at Bishops Bay Country Club. Newcomer
Jake Schroeckenthaler handled the difficult conditions the best as he carded an even par 72 to take medalist honors, helping lead the Eagles to a team win by 18 strokes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles had the top four finishers on Monday, led by Schroeckenthaler's 72. He shot a 39 on the front nine and an impressive 33 (-3) on the back nine. The junior started his day on hole 18, a hole which he bogeyed, meaning he played his final eight holes of the day four under. Schroeckenthaler birdied holes 11, 13, 14, and 16 on the back nine. He added a birdie the par 5 fourth and finished the par 5's at three under on Monday.
-
Matthew Davidson finished one shot back, carding a 73. Davidson shot one over (37) on the front before improving by one shot (36) on the back nine. Davidson finished his day with three birdies and 13 pars.
-
Josh Hentrich (74) and
Dawson Hinz (75) placed third and fourth, respectively. Both players shot an even par 36 on the back nine. Hentrich birdied three holes, while Hinz netted a birdie on the long par-4 14th.
-
Jeromy Toutant rounded out the Eagles scoring lineup as the sophomore posted an 84. Toutant holed out on the par-four first for an eagle two and ended up with a 40 on the front nine and a 44 on the back.
-
Kasen Fager (89) and
Noah Anderson (96) also competed for the Eagles on Monday. Fager had seven pars, while Anderson birdied the par-five fourth.
THE TOURNAMENT
- The Eagles won by 18 strokes over Wisconsin Lutheran College (396). The top five scores for each team were counted towards the team score.
- If the Eagles were playing a more traditional tournament where the top four scores count, the +6 team effort (294) would have been tied for the eighth lowest team mark in program history. Even more impressive is it was the first time the Eagles competed this season.
