Box Score WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. – The Edgewood College Women's Tennis team opened up the 2019 portion of its schedule with a thrilling 5-4 win over the University of Northwestern Saturday afternoon. The Eagles rallied with four of six wins in singles matches to escape with non-conference victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 2-1 after doubles play, the Eagles posted four singles wins, including one in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 singles.
Kai Heineman picked up the 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) win in the exciting No. 3 singles bout.

Alicia Picard had a close match at No. 4 singles as well, gaining a 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) victory.
- The other two singles wins for the Eagles came at the No. 2 and 6 positions, both by scores of 6-3, 6-4.
Alyssa Carew netted the No. 2 singles win, while
Lydia Dean gained the No. 6 singles victory.
- In doubles play, Edgewood College received a convincing victory at the No. 2 position from Heineman and
Sydney Verbauwhede. The duo rolled to an 8-1 win. The No. 1 doubles match featuring Carew and Picard went to a tiebreaker, but the Eagles were edged, 8-7 (9-7).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The win was the 11th-straight for the Eagles dating back to the fall season. Edgewood College started the year 0-2, before posting the 11-straight victories.

- Edgewood College will face UW-Eau Claire and St. Norbert next Saturday in Green Bay. The first match will be against UW-Eau Claire at noon at Western Racquet & Fitness Club.
