ST. PETER, Minn. – The Edgewood College women's tennis team took on some fierce competition in both the ITA Midwest Regional Championships and Gustie Invite this weekend. Freshman Kai Heineman put on an impressive show in the Gustie Invite, beating three straight opponents to win her bracket at the Gustie Invite.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Over the course of two days, Heineman defeated three opponents, beating St. Norberts Ervin Vits 7-6(1), 6-4 in the finals. The freshman put on a show in the second round of the bracket, beating St. Kate's Maddy Knoll in straight sets.
- Jaclyn Swift won her consolation singles final at the Gustie Invite against Brenda Guan from Grinnell College 9-7.
- Marissa Wilson also won her consolation singles final at the Gustie Invite against Mattie Lubben from Bethel 8-5.
- The doubles pair Marissa Wilson and Haley Brooks also had success at the Gustie Invite, taking on a pair from NW-St. Paul. The senior doubles partners fell in the finals 8-2.
- Sydney Verbauwhede participated in the top-quarter of singles play at the ITA Midwest Regionals. The junior won her first match (6-4, 6-3), but dropped her second match (6-3, 6-0) to the runner-up from Bethel.

- The Eagles turn their attention back to conference competition, as they will host Lakeland University at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25 at Quann Park.
