OWATONNA, Minn. – Despite two individual wins by Martinez at No. 4 singles, the Edgewood College men's tennis team dropped their first two matches of the season to a pair of Viking teams in defeat to Grand View, 7-2, and at host Bethany Lutheran, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sabastion Seeger and Glock avoided the doubles sweep by winning at No. 3 doubles, 8-6, in their opener against Grand View
- Andrew Martinez followed with the Eagles lone singles win at position No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-4 win
- Despite losing, Evan Stone played the most competitive match of the day in a 7-6 (4), 7-5 defeat at No. 2 singles
- In the nightcap, the Eagles opened the match with a win at No. 1 doubles, but dropped five of the last eight matches to open the season 0-2
- Brian Davenport and Evan Stone handled Bethany Lutheran at No. 1 doubles, 8-3, then followed with wins at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3, and No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1, respectively
- Andrew Martinez finished the day 2-0 at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-5 victory over Dalton Werckman and secured the Eagles final point of the match
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- It was the Eagles second-straight season opening loss after defeating the University of Dubuque, 8-1, in their 2014-15 opener
- The Eagles, who own a 1-3 combined record through the first two matches of the previous two seasons, rebounded to finish a combined 15-22 in non-conference play to go with two straight undefeated NACC slates
