The Eagles had little trouble up and down the lineup, as the team posted shutouts across three different slots on the night and only one singles opponent manged more than four points in a set. HOW IT HAPPENED-Edgewood College put together a dominating performance to kick off the 2015-16 season, as the Eagles easily pulled out victories across the board.
-The Eagles shut out three opponents in the match, as
Sabrina Fuller and
Madeline George won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles,
Anna Miles shut down her opponent at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0 and George blanked her opponent at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0.
-The Eagles' No. 2 doubles team featured two newcomers in
Jaclyn Swift and
Libby Protz and both impressed in singles and doubles competition. They won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles while Swift was victorious at No. 4 singles by scores of 6-1, 6-5 and Protz grinded out a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE-Longtime doubles partners
Morgan Wilson and
Anna Miles won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. They have now won nine of their last 14 doubles matches together dating back to last season.
-Sophomore
Sabrina Fuller put together one of the more dominating performances on the day for the Eagles, as the Baraboo, Wis., native won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles alongside George and won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. She went 10-14 overall one season ago.
-Wilson, a senior from Verona, Wis., racked up her 45th career singles win, putting her just 13 wins away from tying Kesley Steinhorst (2006-10) for the Edgewood College record.
FOR THE OPPONENTS-Trina Capelli put up the biggest fight for the Buccaneers on the night. She was a member on the No. 1 doubles team for Beloit in an 8-2 loss and fought with Wilson at No. 1 singles. She fell 6-3, 6-4.
UP NEXT-Edgewood College gets right back into action Saturday morning for a pair of matches. The Eagles will play Augustana College (Ill.) at 9 a.m. in Rock Island, Ill., before taking on Grinnell College at 12 p.m.
