MADISON, Wis. – It was a historic day for Women's Tennis at the Powless Tennis Center Sunday. During a nonconference match against Carroll,
Evelyn Taylor became the winningest player in program history. The Eagles (14-10) fell 5-2 to the Pios (9-9).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Carroll claimed the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over
Kaitlyn Narkis/
Christina Ekkela in the second slot and a 6-2 final over
Lauryn Krober/
Baylee Knott in no. 3 doubles.
- In top doubles, Taylor and teammate
Hattie Plenty battled to a 6-3 final.
- Taylor conceded a 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 result in the top singles slot. Plenty fell 6-4, 6-3 in no. 2 singles.
- Narkis and Ekkela had strong performances in no. 3 and no. 4 singles. Narkis earned a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) final in the third slot, while Ekkela posted a 6-4, 6-0 result.
- Krober lost 6-2, 7-5 in fifth singles. Knott dropped a nailbiter in no. 6 singles, her comeback coming up just short in a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (12-10) final.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Taylor's victory in top doubles pushed her into sole possession of the most wins in program history. She now has 127 victories, surpassing Anna Miles (2012-16) and Kelsey Steinhorst (2006-10) and their 126 victories.
