MADISON, Wis. – It's just four days shy of three years since the Edgewood College women's tennis team lost a regular season conference match in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. On Saturday, Aurora University and Benedictine University became victims number 32 and 33 in the Eagles' historic winning streak. The Eagles downed Aurora 9-0 in the morning match and dispatched Benedictine 8-1 in the afternoon.
After trailing early in all three doubles matches, Edgewood College (3-3, 3-0 NACC) rallied to win all three over Aurora University (1-2, 1-2 NACC). Laura Olsen and Molly Protz had the closest match, defeating Abby Matayka and Melanie Findlay 8-6 at the No. 2 position. In singles play, the Eagles won five of six matches in straight sets. Only Anna Miles at No. 2 singles was forced into a match tiebreaker, where she prevailed 4-6, 6-1, 11-9.
Against Benedictine University (3-2, 3-2 NACC), the Eagles again rolled through doubles action. Mykenzy Palmer and Sabrina Fuller claimed an 8-2 victory over Anna Savio and Anna MacLachlan at No. 3 doubles. In singles, Palmer went to a match tiebreaker before defeating Feena Chirayath 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 at No. 5 singles. Morgan Wilson closed out the dual at No. 1 singles with a thrilling 5-7, 6-3, 12-10 come from behind victory over Andrea Goyao. Wilson had trailed 9-4 in the tiebreaker before rallying to win.
Edgewood College will remain at home for their next match, an NACC contest with Wisconsin Lutheran College on Thursday, September 11 at Quann Park in Madison. Thursday's match begins at 4:00 p.m.
