LA CROSSE, Wis. – With the conference tournament just a week away, the Edgewood College women's tennis team prepared with a pair of matches on Sunday. The Eagles fell to UW-La Crosse 0-9 before being edged by Carthage College 4-5.
In the afternoon match, Edgewood College jumped out to a hot start as the Eagles grabbed two of the three doubles slots. Ellie Wilkie and Sara Rendon had the closest match, but came out victorious with a 9-8 (7-5) win over Carthage's No. 3 duo of Kristen Peterson and Holly Weber.
In singles play, Edgewood College's No. 1 Morgan Wilson needed a supertiebreaker to defeat Bari Reynolds, but took the match 6-4, 4-6, 10-3. Anna Miles also earned a win with a supertiebreaker, but the Eagles could not seal the deal and fell 4-5.
With a perfect NAC record of 11-0, Edgewood College has earned the first seed and a bye for the first round of the conference tournament. The Eagles will battle the lowest remaining seed on 9:00 a.m. this Saturday as they look for their fourth title in five seasons.
