WAUKESHA, Wis. – A record performance was turned in by the Edgewood College men's golf team this past weekend at the Marian University Spring Invitational. The Eagles shot a season-best 303 on Sunday before shattering that and breaking a school record with a one-under par 287 on Monday. Three Eagle golfers finished in the top-ten at Morningside Golf Club.
Senior Kenny Rucker shot an impressive two-under par 70 at the Waukesha course and followed that with an even par 72 to finish third in the 72-golfer field. Rucker was the first Edgewood College golfer to record a sub-par tournament since Brent Quade (2008-12) carded a six-under 137 at the MSOE Invitational in October 2011.
Not far behind Rucker was freshman Patrick Cahill who after firing an 80 on Sunday, carded an Eagle record 66 to place sixth with a two-day total 146. Michael Mathwick also finished in the top ten as he posted a 75 on day one which was followed by a 74 on day two. The top-ten finishes were a career-best by both Cahill and Mathwick.
Sophomore Patrick Bohrer carded his second best finish of the season with a nine-over par 153. Bohrer improved Sunday's score by three strokes to tie for 16th. Tyler Cobb, Mitchell Feller, Tony Thaden, and Austin Foley all continued the trend as they posted their best two-round totals this season.
The Eagles travel to Aurora, Illinois next weekend as they look to continue their strong conference play. After day one of the NAC Championship on October 15, Edgewood College holds a one stroke lead over MSOE. The conference will continue the tournament this Sunday at Stonebridge Country Club.
