HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Edgewood College women's tennis team got their first win of the spring season and their first win in sunny South Carolina on Monday. The Eagles topped Farleigh Dickinson University-Florham (N.J.) 8-1 in an evening match. Earlier in the day, Edgewood College dropped a 7-2 decision to Baldwin Wallace University (Ohio).
After taking two of the three doubles matches against FDU-Florham, the Eagles flexed their muscles in singles play, sweeping all six matches in straight sets. Mykenzy Palmer put up a perfect 6-0, 6-0 score against Jen Epstein at No. 5 singles, while Rhea Bradley defeated Tenzin Lama 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 6 position. Anna Miles was a double winner in the dual match teaming with Brooke McBain for a No. 2 doubles win and then defeating FDU-Florham's Jenna Cowie 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
Miles was the only Eagle to post two singles wins on the day. She defeated Baldwin Wallace's Morgan Baker 6-1, 4-6, 10-8 at No. 3 singles for the Eagles only singles win against the Yellowjackets. The Eagles were close to taking two more singles matches against Baldwin Wallace, but both Laura Olsen and Ellie Wilkie dropped nail-biters in a pair of 10-point supertiebreakers. Miles and Wilkie teamed up at No. 2 to earn the Eagles' only doubles point, defeating Morgan Baker and Mackenzi Baker.
Edgewood College will meet the College of Wooster tomorrow in their third dual match of their spring trip.
