Box Score MADISON, Wis. – It would have been easy to have a letdown when stepping out of conference play this week, but the Edgewood College men's soccer team wouldn't let it happen. Four different Eagles scored goals and
Evan Rogaczewski assisted on three of them as Edgewood College blanked Lawrence University 4-0 at Breese Stevens Field.
It took the Eagles more than eight minutes to get a shot, but when they did, they made it count. Andrew Aurit played the ball wide in the box to Xander Bebber and received a return pass just inside the 18-yard line. Aurit one-touch shot clanked off the left hand post and in for the Eagles first goal. Edgewood College (7-4-1) tallied again in the 34th minute when Rogaczewski picked out Kelmend Isaj inside the penalty area. Isaj blasted a low hard shot across the front of Vikings goalkeeper Joe Krivit and into the far side netting.
Closing in on halftime, it was time for senior Diego Lema-Hernandez to get his first goal of the season. Lema-Hernandez received the ball from Rogaczewski inside the box with his back to the goal. He turned hard to his right and punched a shot over Krivit's head and tucked neatly underneath the crossbar for a 3-0 lead in the 44th minute.
Lawrence University (4-6-1) had the advantage in shots in the second half, but the Eagles defense and goalkeepers Chad Stivers and Kyle Wood, who had come on to replace starter Matt Dammen turned away each effort. The Eagles capped the scoring on a 69th minute corner kick from Rogaczewski. His hard low cross cut through multiple Viking defenders and found Alexander Riberio near the top of the penalty arc. Riberio's one-touch blast from 20 yards screamed across the turf and stuck in the lower right corner of the net for the 4-0 final margin.
Dammen earned his seventh win of the season in goal, while Stivers made two saves in his time in net. The Eagles limited the Vikings to just nine shots, and only three of which were on goal. Edgewood College will travel on Saturday to face NACC preseason favorite Dominican University in River Forest, Ill. The Eagles trail the Stars by one game for third place in the NACC standings.
